The Department of Western Languages and Literatures
History of the Department:
The Department of Western Languages and Literatures was founded in 2010 within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. The department consists of the Programmes of English Language and Literature and Russian Language and Literature.
Mission:
Our department mainly aims to enable the students to study and acquire British and Russian languages, literatures and cultures, develop their research capacity and skills, and upgrade their oral and written fluency in English and Russian.
Within this context, in the Department of English Language and Literature, it is intended to open the courses in which the students will analyse British novels, dramas and poems from various centuries, apply literary theories on the texts, learn Greek and Roman Mythologies, and develop their listening, reading, speaking, writing and translation skills that will enable them to use English effectively.
Vision:
The Department of Russian Language and Literature has started to accept students since 2021-2022 Academic Year. The Department of English Language and Literature is in the establishment process now. In the next years, with its qualified academic staff, it is aimed to raise specialized students who will use English effectively, think objectively, who are aware of the other cultures, communicate internationally, and equipped with specialized knowledge and skills.
